Dierk Meyer is a freelance photographer and digital artist enjoying taking pictures in his native Texas and occasionally abroad. Though his studies have included microbiology and chemical engineering, his passion remains nature and wildlife photography. When asked what he photographs most, he often says, "everything from mountains to mosquitos," quoting John Shaw, another wildlife photographer he both admires and from whom he learned.

He is adamant in stressing mastery of technique first, and artistry second. During the recent digital trend in photography over the last 5 years, he has worked in web graphics and photo retouching using the computer instead of traditional techniques. Often photographing in the most unlikely of places (e.g. the middle of town or on a roadside), he stresses that stellar images need not come only from exotic places. Just take your time and look around.
